We are pleased to present a community carve-along project featuring a saltwater fish pattern and supporting reef habitat.
If you've ever wanted to carve a fish and didn't know where to begin, now is your chance! Free of charge and open to all skill level carvers. The goal is to bring many fish carvers together to share their knowledge and expertise with the rest of the carving community. Our goal is to present an even paced classroom like atmosphere where fish carvers are guided through a step by step illustrated procedure and explanation, instructions, and group feedback to a complete fish carving. The demo will be presented by Tony Suszko and we will have members of the NFCG stopping by to lend a hand from time to time freely offering their expertice along with Ron Bailey and many others.
Focus will be placed on - tool selection (bits and burrs used to carve the fish),
- Band saw technique, fish body shaping /contouring,
- wood & metal fin construction and detail,
- scaling technique,
- paint schedule /airbrush technique, and
- base and habitat construction.
Participants will be encouraged to share their progress with the group by posting their progress in the forum to gain feedback from the group along with expert guidance from a panel of experienced fish carvers. We will provide a working fish pattern available for download with the hopes that many will carve along with us. Please note that this is a rare oppertunity; note that carvers pay $ for classes. This instructional demo is free, along with the expert guidance. Follow this link to our forum where this will be conducted. If you haven't registered as a member yet, you can do so to access the forum area. It's free but we do like to know the participants instead of having a lot of "guest" posting in the forum. See everyone in class.

Comment by GUEST on 2008-11-28 02:03:55 Excellent patterns Tony, and thanks for your efforts!! I think a front view and some of your cross-section views would enhance your patterns of this fish. Remove one of the side views and you will have enough space for the additional views. Ron | Comment by GUEST on 2008-11-28 04:00:59 Back at cha Ron ! Althouh cutaway sections would be nice, I have only one carved example in wich to demonstrate and photograph with at this time. To produce cut away's, I would have to sacrifice my working model and run it thru the band saw . Thee pattern has proofed very well in producing the cut out blank. I think the pattern will meet or exceed expectations to those available in the market palce. I'll do my best to lead the group throug body shaping. Thanks Ron. Tony |
